Food Network Star Valerie Bertinelli Gets Honest About ‘Kids Baking Championship’ in New Video

Less than a year after Valerie Bertinelli announced the end of her Food Network series, Valerie’s Home Cookingshe made the shocking revelation about another one of her projects.

In an emotional new video uploaded on Instagram on January 20, the actress revealed she won’t be returning as a host and judge on the hit competition series Kids Baking Championship after 12 seasons. As she appeared on camera, she explained her feelings were really hurt, even though she understood the reasons behind the decision.

I’ve been avoiding facing what I got confirmation for last night,” she sadly began the two-minute clip. “I wanted to sleep on it because it really hurt my feelings… Logically, I know that it’s business. Budget cuts, right? But that really hurt my feelings to know that I’m not going to be asked back to be on Kids Baking Championship. It really sucks.”

In addition to saying that she will miss working with her co-host, Duff Goldmanand all the crew who put together Kids Baking Championship, Valerie also detailed how much being on the show meant to her while going through her 2022 divorce from ex-husband Tom Vitale.

“Without sounding like a drama queen, the show saved my life,” she said. “Working with all of those really wonderful people and feeling productive and knowing I can spread some kindness and not just wallow in my hell and just try to keep my head above water — it helped me. It was like a flotation device. So, it really hurts that I won’t be able to go back and see everybody.”

When fans learned the One Day at a Time alum wouldn’t be on-screen for the popular Food Network series, many reached out to her to share how sad they were by the unexpected news.

“Can we sign a petition for your return???” one person inquired on Instagram. “OH THIS IS SICK AND TWISTED. You and Duff are the dream team! UGH this breaks my heart!!!!” another claimed. “I love you and Duff together. You are so real. This is such a shame, I’m so sorry,” a different follower added.

Although the news of Valerie did not return to Kids Baking Championship is one no one is happy about, she luckily has more culinary-related projects on the horizon. Her new cookbook Indulge: Delicious and Decadent Dishes to Enjoy and Share is set to debut on April 9, and fans can already pre-order it online.
