Los Angeles hosted a unique culinary event at the historic Tam O’Shanter in Atwater Village, an Old Hollywood haunt with an interior blending 19th-century Scottish tavern charm and Snow White’s cottage aesthetic—a favorite of Walt Disney himself. Eater Off Menu, an annual celebration of food and drink trends, featured a diverse lineup of chefs and restaurants, in partnership with Cathay Pacific.

A Culinary Wonderland

Guests entered a fantastical food setting. A 40-foot-long sheet cake by Hannah Ziskin of Quarter Sheets and a stargazy pie from New York’s Dean’s greeted attendees. Ji Rong carved Peking duck, while Holbox served award-winning Mexican seafood, including scallops straight from the shell. The air was filled with the aroma of juicy roast meat, and a Cathay Pacific flight attendant passed out flutes of champagne, adding a touch of elegance to the experience.

Pasjoli offered French dip sandwiches with poivre sauce, carved from Lawry’s The Prime Rib’s iconic carts, while Lawry’s prepared their legendary spinning salad to order. Café Telegrama served both sweet and savory versions of their ricotta pancakes from a charming outdoor diner setup, drawing crowds eager to taste their cult-favorite dish.

Drinks and Delights

Thunderbolt and Night on Earth crafted cocktails showcasing Punch’s top drink trends, including a banana-miso carajillo, a neon passion fruit refresher featuring Hpnotiq, and classic tiny ’tinis. An ice sculpture embedded with fish, radishes, beets, and tins from Row 7 added a conceptual, artistic touch to the game room.

Gregory Gourdet of Portland’s Kann presented twice-cooked pork, a dish that drew rave reviews. Guests enjoyed yakitori from Arcadia’s Sumibiyakitori Kidori in the cozy Cathay Pacific lounge. Molly Baz of Mister’s handed out ice cream sandwiches topped with sweet-salty crunchy brittle, personally serving guests and adding a personal touch to the event.

Gifts and Memories

Attendees received gift bags packed with delights from Eater’s favorite brands, including Luxardo cocktail cherries, Unreal chocolate candies, Giadzy gluten-free pasta, and Fly By Jing’s noodles seasoned with their cult-fave chile crisp and sauces. A coupon for Molly Baz’s Ayoh mayo, particularly the dill pickle flavor, was also included. The Majestic photobooth captured memorable moments, and guests could enjoy passed salt bread from Out of Ordi, filled with sweet corn or ube cream, as they mingled.
