Wonder, a restaurant-tech company, aims to automate every meal, with a goal of planning, preparing, and delivering meals with minimal human intervention. At the 2026 FSTEC conference, Wonder North America CEO Tony Hoggett outlined the company’s plan to combine artificial intelligence, kitchen robotics, and autonomous delivery into an end-to-end food platform.
Hoggett stated that within five years, parts of the business could have the capacity to plan, prepare, and deliver meals with very little human involvement. He said, “We’ll be able to plan for them, cook for them, and deliver without them even thinking about it.”
Automated Food Preparation
Wonder’s Infinite Makeline technology, acquired from Sweetgreen’s Spyce business, can assemble up to 500 bowls per hour using 68 ingredients, with average order-to-ready times of just under three minutes. The machine currently supports six different Wonder concepts, while employees handle prep, refills, and final touches.
They plan to install the system in tens of locations across the Northeast, Texas, and the Washington, D.C., area in 2027. Additionally, Wonder is developing robots that will fetch ingredients and make sauces, coordinated by an AI-powered kitchen display system.
Drone Delivery and AI-Powered Meal Recommendations
Wonder is partnering with Zipline to launch drone delivery in Texas in January, starting in the Dallas area. The company’s drones can travel up to 70 mph, aiming to widen each restaurant’s delivery radius while reducing courier costs.
Wonder is also developing MEL, an AI platform designed to recommend meals based on factors including body composition and biomarkers. Marc Lore, Founder and CEO, stated that the company’s ultimate goal is to serve customers all 21 meals they eat in a week.
The company’s vision is to create a fully autonomous food platform capable of autonomously planning, cooking, and delivering food. However, this vision comes with a high cost, and Wonder locations are more expensive to build due to the automation factor.
Despite the challenges, Wonder has secured significant funding, raising $650 million in July at a $9 billion pre-money valuation, with DoorDash adding another $125 million in September. This funding will help Wonder achieve its goal of automating every meal.
