Lidl GB has introduced a line of high-protein meat items, blending British meat with pea protein. The company asserts these products offer a minimum of 20 percent more protein compared to standard meat substitutes.
On Friday, September 18, Lidl’s High-Protein Meat selection will be available across the UK, with prices beginning at £1.99.
According to data referenced by Lidl, there has been a significant surge in interest for high-protein meals, with related searches rising by over 5,000 percent in the last year. This trend highlights a robust consumer demand for such products.
Cost remains a major hurdle for those seeking high-protein diets, as 51 percent of consumers cite affordability as the primary challenge. There is a growing need for budget-friendly options to boost protein consumption.
The range includes several products aimed at familiar household meals, such as high-protein cumberland sausages, high-protein beef mince, and high-protein meatballs. These products are designed to make increasing protein intake more accessible to consumers.

The high-protein cumberland sausages are claimed to provide up to 50 percent more protein than traditional equivalents, and are priced at £1.99. This makes them an attractive option for consumers looking for high-protein products at an affordable price.
According to Richard Bourns, Chief Commercial Officer at Lidl GB, the launch is part of the retailer’s wider approach to changing the balance of its protein offering, and is aligned with the principles of the EAT-Lancet Planetary Health Diet. Lidl is committed to increasing plant-based options to 25 percent of its total protein offering by 2030.
Lidl is the first British retailer and discounter to align its sales targets with the Planetary Health Diet principles. The company’s commitment to increasing plant-based options is a key part of its strategy to provide consumers with more sustainable and healthy choices.
Starting Friday, September 18, Lidl’s High-Protein Meat line will be in stores nationwide, aiming to make higher protein intake more affordable while keeping meat a regular part of daily meals. This initiative marks a key step in Lidl’s efforts to expand plant-based choices and promote sustainable, healthy eating.
